About Our School

A Legacy of Excellence Since 1923

School Profile

Tianjin Experimental High School (TEHS) was founded in 1923. It is a Chinese public school with over 4,000 students currently enrolled. It is one of five "Key Schools" in the City of Tianjin and is considered by many to be one of the most selective high schools in both the city and the region. Municipality of Tianjin has a population of over 12,900,000.

The International Division of TEHS (TEHS.ID.IB) was the first public school in China to offer both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) and the IB Diploma Program (DP). IB authorization was received for the IB MYP in June 1998 and for the IB Diploma in March 2008.

TEHS.ID.IB is a small program and receives applications from the larger TEHS student body and is the most selective division of the high school. TEHS.ID.IB is housed in its own building on the spacious TEHS campus.

There are 26 fully qualified teachers, some of whom are educational leaders, IB trainers and examiners. All of the Chinese teachers are bilingual with their second language being English. The non-Chinese teachers come from the US, UK, India, France and Germany.

Promotion is based on International Baccalaureate exams and not national exams (Gao-Kao). The language of instruction is bilingual, but 90% English.
